The history of my name(s).

I started posting on Battle.net around 1997, back when the Pilot's Lounge and Ogden's Tavern forums were still in full swing. My earliest memory was of The Man (INFERNO) getting everyone in a tiffy, and a new group known as CWAL forming to attack Blizzard. I didn't post there much, so I didn't really know what was going on. My friend, Psycho Sam!, posted there quite a bit, and I thought it was pretty stupid that he spent so much time there, hehe. However, I posted under a few names, the most used being Na-Krul (the name of the enemy from the Hellfire expansion set for Diablo) and Satan.

At the same time, I was beginning to become a master at the game Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64 (and I am still pretty darn good, even to this day - I play the game pretty frequently). My brother started calling me "SM 007" based on my real life initials (my name, of course, is Shawn MacLean) and the fact that I was quite the sharpshooter. I thought the name had a nice ring to it, and it was pretty original, so I started using it for other games, sites and whatnot. Then, one day, I started posting with that name in the Battle.net forums (right before the War Room was created), and I stuck with it. People started noticing, I think, because the name stood out, and because my posts were usually worth reading. Then I starting meeting some cool people, and added them to my list. The rest is pretty much history, what with me getting into SideWinder, and all of that stuff.

I've always liked the SM_007 name, but for a long time I was infatuated with the nickname "Edge." I thought it had a cool ring to it and I wanted to start using it. After a lot of thought, I changed my name to what I thought people would find cooler, only to see the confusion it caused - especially when another user named Edge appeared (Edgar, also known at a time as EdgeMaster). Even though he changed his name to EdgeMaster to avoid confusion, the confusion remained and I missed my old SM_007 name. That's when I wrote my first CWAL initiation story, "The End of Edge," as a way to bring back the SM_007 name. Soon after, EdgeMaster changed his name back to Edge, and eventually, everyone caught on to what the heck was happening, hehe.

And now you know...the rest of the story.
