A Goon
SMB wasn't designed remember, it grew like a particularly ugly wart - with layers and layers of glop added onto a simple DOS filesharing interface, so it has no consistency at all.

well, I'm like the only op in #puternutz without a firewall really, and after getting attacked last night (long story) I figured it was finally time to get one.

Besides, I found one that does what I want (application level blocking of outgoing connections) for free, as well as being pretty easy to configure. Now its not terribly advanced for power user type applications in that I'm not sure if you can set absolute rules for each port and such, but for a personal firewall, its really kick ass becuase its straightforward and effective without sucking up tons of resources. Its also free. Can't go wrong there. :)

Now the work firewall is going to have to be a bit more industrial strength since it also has to deal with NAT and such. Oh how I want a hardware one!

I wonder who voted firewall on the new poll? *coughTriduscough* - SoulTaker - 2000-04-17 00:00:00
